UPDATE: Presentations started today and due to some scheduling conflicts etc. we are a little behind in the presentations. Tomorrow (Thursday) we are hoping to get through many more and some may be pushed to Friday. I know the students have worked hard, so I do apologize for the presentation schedule. I do see some great models coming in to the school though!! Thanks for your hard work Gr5Science!
The Grade 5s have a Human Body Science Project in the works. They have each chosen a human body system (eg. nervous, circulatory) and are completing a slideshow as well as a model to display their system. See Google Classroom for the success criteria involved in the project. These projects will be due June 21. We have been working on Multiplication and Division. Ask your child how to multiply 2 digit by 2 digit (Gr.5) and 3 digit by 2 digit (Gr.6) math problems.
Long division has been a struggle. Many students have asked for extra practice which I will send home later this week. We use DMSB as a reminder of the steps. This website is also a good reference: http://www.homeschoolmath.net/teaching/md/how_teach_long_division.php sJust an update of what is happening in our room:
* Language - we have finished our newspaper articles and they are on display in the front foyer showcase. If you happen to be in the school, take a peek. - we are now moving to TV news reports. Working in groups of 3-4 students, they are creating a TV news programme with news anchors, on location reporters etc. We will use the green screen to video our news programme * Math - geometry has finished (see the knowledge portion of the test that has come home with communication following later this week.) - we have started multiplication and most students need to practice, practice, practice their math facts!!!! See the pre-unit multiplication drill that came home. This was an eye opener for some as they did not know their multiplication facts! * Science - Gr5 - finishing energy and moving to Human Body * Social Studies - First Nations and Explorers /First Nation Treaties * Other items - Gr6 Science Centre forms due Apr.13 (trip is Apr.28) Please ask your child about different events and activities that are happening in our classroom. Not all items are posted on here but are worth discussing at home.

Some students have some Language homework....there was a novel response due today (Thursday) and there will be another one due next Friday. We also have some reading comprehension for homework (Gr5 - Jacques Cartier and Gr6 Birds Can Fly, Why Can't I?) plus a letter to write. Finally, the third thing that is Language homework is Comma Sentences. We learned how the placement of a comma in a sentence can change the meaning (eg. Eats, Shoots & Leaves). Ask you child about these 3 Language activities and if they have handed them in or email me and I can let you know:) Grade 5s have their Science/Heritage Fair due next week. We discussed changing the presentation part to Tuesday, March 7. The students can bring in anything they need on Monday and we can have some time to practice the presentation. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Angle ArtMore floor plansThe picture below shows the floor plans that came in today. No more time will be given in class to work on these. We have a workroom at lunch or your child can bring it home to finish. Please enlarge the picture to get a better view of the floor plans to see your child's work. Ask your child how much the flooring and baseboard trim costs in total!! They were surprised how much flooring costs! Finished Floor PlansThe picture below shows all of the finished floor plans that were due today. Ask your child which floor plan is theirs and about the flooring and trim they chose to make some calculations. Yes, the picture is hard to read but the students know which floor plan is theirs;). Try to enlarge the picture to get a better view of the floor plans. UPCOMING DUE DATESThere are a few things on the go and some due dates to keep in mind.
